ON GOD’S PORCH

ON GOD’S PORCH

ON GOD’S PORCH

So let me see, SUNDAY, October 2. I am still here and I have the sharing of Two Guardian Angels keeping track of me. This morning’s walk included about 7-8 squirrels as we walked to the park and back. It is interesting to have squirrels stop what they are doing and then up the tree to the closest limb and just stop and stare at us as I stop by to say hello.

Each one, different trees, as we made our way to the park and back.

“You’re doing well, have a great day, take care of yourself”.

They were making my day as I moved about.

We are not alone in this Iowa universe. The Owls chat, the squirrels chat, the other dogs say Hi, and I smile and say hi. They record my progress one to another, to another to another. We are all entities that watch the sunrise and sunset. They feel the air get cooler and the wind blows more, or less. A human walks by and says “What a beautiful day”. The journey of more than people.

As you go about the day see all the creatures that GOD has provided you, as well as the people of a world that GOD enjoys. OUR CARES AND PRAYERS GO OUT FOR ALL OF YOU, AND ALL OF THEM.

THERE IS ALWAYS A GIFT ON GOD’S PORCH

WHAT WORKS FOR YOU

WHAT WORKS FOR YOU

What Works For You?

I have been writing for many years now. The notes that have become Unorthodox Christianity. They go quite a ways back. Why did I even begin with the writing. It seems I need to remind myself to write more articles. Why?

It largely began with the conversation with a Sunday school teacher I have referenced before. In second grade Sunday School, in the midst of teaching about GOD creating the world and GOOD and EVIL, the teacher asked an open door, “Do you have any questions?”

Yes”. I responded. “If GOD created everything, why didn’t GOD just make GOOD PEOPLE?”

That was the end of my religious question and answer period. I was embarking on a life where I asked questions and I looked for answers.

First question became IS GOD JUST A REALLY BIG GUY IN THE SKY? Then I touched on JESUS. Should I simply ask the questions to the BIG GUY AT THE TOP? Why Work around the middle man. My dad had worked with professional sales representatives. I guess I got it from him.

I looked up at the sky one evening when I was about 13-14 years old. I began asking GOD questions, with help from the middle man. I could not imagine a BIG GUY IN THE SKY. Too Big. Too many planets. Too many people, too many questions. Too fixed.

So here is God, a spirit that envelopes all created order, galaxies and universes we may never see. There are spiritual dimensions that we can’t even imagine and entities that even Hollywood can’t conjure up. Is GOD a celestial humanoid that only speaks one language and favors one race. A spirit (Whatever that is) that came before all physical creation, affects every single human on Earth to some extent. I have no problem believing in God (whatever a GOD is), but a God with limits on just what [HE] can or can not do?

Then you have the question of the power of Christianity, which is removed from the culture of the legend of Jesus a Messiah for what became a completely different culture that didn’t exist before Jesus? A Messiah that has yet to be accepted by the culture that refuses to accept Jesus as its own Messiah. The CHRIST of Christian is very much a separate entity from the culture Jesus came from and built around converts and Gentiles. In fact the Christian culture of early Christianity created power around an individual who preached LOVE ONE ANOTHER.

It is a wonder that a child in Bethlehem was chosen to carry the spirit and message of God to these people? When these people didn’t listen to Jesus, Jesus sent his insight for LOVE ONE ANOTHER through others who did believe in the life and story of Jesus into other cultures that didn’t speak Jesus’ language or have Jesus’ customs. Groups of other believers that translated Jesus story into their own and patterned their own beliefs along with Jesus. Could there be unconditional love in the midst of all religions without respect of culture, origin, skin tone? We have created racial preferences on EARTH which was created by a single entity to be made in “Our image”.

In the midst of it all GOD has already created that entity to be among us.

It comes in the framework of our pets, our animals, our disenfranchised friends that have a language of their own yet understand our emotions more than we understand our own. They understand our behavior and love us in spite of ourselves. They forgive us more quickly than we can respond. And there have been many millions and billions of followers that have moved forward into Jesus’ message of LOVE ONE ANOTHER, plain and simple.

GOD IS CAPABLE and HAS CREATED GOOD PEOPLE. The truth is that even the GOOD PEOPLE have been around since the beginning.

When we strip away the pious posturing and self beneficial exclusionary doctrines of certain elements of mankind that have made religious structures that make no sense in the in light of a loving GOD that created everyone to made in “HIS IMAGE”. A disciple of JESUS put it this way, GOD IS LOVE. GOD is a force of energy that too many people have refused to participate in. Look around you. Let us not forget an evil side of Succes AT Anothers Expense within the creation of the energy of LOVE that GOD has to compete with for individual attention.

And eventually UNORTHODOX CHRISTIANITY became a bit more than a question and answer period of a Second Grade United Methodist Sunday School student who asked a simple question. Why?

Because just CHRISTIANITY didn’t fit what I discovered. It didn’t fit the answers I heard of on TV. It didn’t match with JESUS.

LOVE ONE ANOTHER seemed much simpler than what I heard on Sunday mornings in church discussions. AND TOO MANY THREATS. If you do this, your off to hell. You will never go to heaven. Initially there was only HEAVEN in the first place. In the followers from different cultures who embraced the Jesus of LOVE ONE ANOTHER there was a different outlook. A LIFE IS OUTLOOK.

I discovered other things. They were shocking things. LIFE IS TEMPORARY.

Not only that, YOU CAN NOT CHANGE THAT. The opportunity you have been given ON EARTH comes with no time frame. GOOD, BAD, INDIFFERENT, a car accident, a war, a flood, a pandemic, a tornado, a world war. For many A diagnosis at birth, or in the middle of it. This life, with all of its challenges, is here and it is TEMPORARY in this format. We may follow the adherents from other cultures who believe in reincarnation, or do it over until you get it right. There are others who believe that you need to get it right and that is it. I, personally, have never imaged a day I do not get up to enjoy the journey over and over again.

UNORTHODOX CHRISTIANITY IS LIFE IS MEANT FOR LIVING, TAKE YOUR FAITH OFF OF THE SHELF.

LIVE IN THE DARK or LIVE IN THE LIGHT. YOU CHOOSE.

The variety of what you can choose is beyond my scope.

But I have always remembered one thing. “WHY DIDN’T GOD MAKE ALL PEOPLE GOOD ?”

BECAUSE THAT IS OUR JOB.

By the way we act, FORGIVE ME MY TRESPASSES (easy enough) AS I FORGIVE THOSE WHO HAVE TRESPASSED AGAINST ME (real tough).

LOVE ONE ANOTHER.

DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU

(Way Complicated in it’s depth).

To me, the purpose of living is to participate in the adventure of life.

How you do that is what you choose. You do the best you can while you are here. I have always wanted UNORTHODOX CHRISTIANITY to give you a place where you can MAKE JESUS AND GOD WORK FOR YOU. If you so wish, have a conversation with an entity most of us call GOD. Or a carpenters son named JESUS. Wisdom is not exclusive to just these two. You will meet the wisest people at the most opportune times in your life. It will not happen by coincidence. It will happen for you by asking and recognizing it. It may be your lifelong adventure or at your last breath. You will be forgiven for what you know not what you do. And you may enjoy every moment of the journey. GOD has made all people good, it is just a matter of time.

GOD BLESS and I pray you can make your best life work for you.

It is your gift from GOD and a carpenters SON named JESUS.

The Circle of Existence

The Circle of Existence

The Circle of Existence

From the way-back machine in Unorthodox Christianity. Before there was WordPress there was the internet. In those earlier years was the original Unorthodox Christianity.com The theology was more than a blog. Much of it was much as the following content. I am setting up the reissue of that original .com that will be in the core of this site. One of the many early pages.

From 7-29-2007

The question of the nature of existence has been at the forefront of philosophical thought forever. From long before mankind could record thoughts on papyrus, and prior even to the cultures of hand me down legends of heroes in the past, where do we come from and where are we going has been the basis of theology and the world’s religions.

I have been reading a brief synopsis of the major theological movements over the past few days and have been intrigued by the growth of theological thought. The term cyclical comes to mind as theology and religious history follow an ebb and flow from strict dogma, to flexible reform and back into a strict religious morality when reform results in what the majority considers to be a rise in the incidence of `immoral’ behavior.

I have also noticed that there seems to be great periods of frenetic religious activity, followed by lulls of mere history, followed by eruptions of dogmatic supremacy, followed by periods of romantic flexibility and a return to dogmatic stigmatism.

From the most primitive forms of mythology that established multiple gods throughout the developing world, in Rome, Egypt, Mexico, Peru and others, man has constantly attempted to explain who he is and why is he here. Hinduism seems to predate and to begin establishing the modern era of a monotheistic theology. Hindusim seems to be followed by a dramatic influx of thought developed by Confucius and then expanded through Lao Tzu. Buddhism grows out of this and then on the western front shades of Mosaic law. Then the segue into Jesus and Christianity and then Mohammed and Islam expanding Christian concepts into cultural conformity. This continues to this day through Bahai and some of the more liberal new age inclusive conceptuals that try and appeal to a broader mixed cultural group.

Even within the buracracy of fundamentalist thought, each major religious turn includes its reformists and its liberalists, whatever name is coined for them, or about them or from them.

I am also amazed that each successive religion takes what it wishes from its predecessors and edits to suit a new crowd of followers or a new crop of leaders. I believe that this accounts for the ebb and flow from dogmatism to flexibility as it benefits the practitioners and their `chosen caste’.

As I read with a skepticism born of historical study, I am drawn always to the Christian writings of my cultural upbringing, the Judaistic drama of history, and the history of Hinduism, the more ancient beginning of current group belief. I see a lot of the writings of Jesus being an interpretation of the writings of Lao Tzu or Confucius or Mencius to a crowd that wasn’t familiar with or had disavowed these ancient writings in favor of “their own” Mosaic dogma and Pharasitic interpretations.

I see where the tribe develops its own school of thought for its own culture and then takes ownership of its relevance and correctness. Jesus, as a great teacher, embraces the whole world of theological thought at the time and proclaims that “I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE”. The Way, being the Lao Tzu world of Confucianisms, The Truth, being the world of Mosaic Law, and the LIFE, being the reverent respect for all living things of Buddhism and many of its interpreters. This he conjoins all at once in one convenient itinerant package we came to call Christianity.

Centered amidst the confluence of many trade routes, Jesus was no doubt exposed to much theological thought in his day. I do not believe that one such as Jesus would have been content to merely accept the Mosiac dogma in light of the Eastern beliefs.

The question that seems to gnaw at me is just how much inclusion Jesus incorporates into his world of thought which is buried in his words, thoughts and deeds. In addition, I see how much of our interpretation of Jesus is being contained in a vessel of religious dogma that appears narrow minded and `self’ contained. By this I mean that we interpret Jesus’ sayings in light of what our modern culture wishes for us to believe and not enough of our belief looks at what the world in Jesus time was believing. Because our theological bureaucrats find some beliefs to be `profitable’ we are missing the hidden code of history. Dan Brown only scratches the surface of the code in a haunting mystery novel about political religious history. The real drama lies in the clues to our existence that Jesus came to reveal to us through the disciples and the scribes within his entourage and their families’ oral traditions.

All of this hyperbole to reach this point: where do we come from, where are we going, what is life?

From The Gospel of Thomas within the Nag Hammadi library:

Lesson 18: The Disciples said to Jesus, “Tell us how our end will be.”

Jesus said, “Have you discovered then, the beginning that you look for the end? For where the beginning is there the end will be. Blessed is He who will take his place at the beginning, he will know the end and not experience death.”

Lesson 19: Jesus said, “Blessed is he who came into being before he came into being. If you become my disciples and listen to my words, these stones will minister to you. For there are five trees in Paradise which minister to you in Paradise, which remain undisturbed summer and winter and whose leaves do not fall. Whoever becomes acquainted with them will not experience death.”

Moses, Confucius, Mencius, Lao Tzu, Buddha: All predate Jesus. They are 5 pillars of religious thought that have founded countless schools of theology and represent a core of thought that one could reasonably call, the ancients. Within each lie the prodigy which expanded and interpreted their ideas. These are cores whose beliefs have not fallen out of favor (among the `enlightened’) although they have always been threatening to those who desire power. The stones are the beliefs, the sayings, the proverbials that have been tested and reviewed and found to be valid through the ages.

The mysteries of Jesus have always been enigmatic to scholars. “Even these stones will minister to you.” There is a proverbial that I like from Ecclesiastes, “a time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together.” I noticed in my reading, as obvious as it is that I missed it, the order of the saying seems odd. A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together. Common sense would seem to support that one gathers stones and then throws them; but not in this sense. The stones of beliefs are often
“ read and then cast away, discarded into the cavern of memory”. Later in life an event occurs that brings that old `stone’ to the surface, gathered together so to speak in light of new knowledge or understanding.

An example are the many events of our lives that are lived and cast out of our conciousness in favor of each new event. Upon the death of a loved one we then sit back and pull these stones to the forefront of our memory that we may derive comfort from the memories once discarded and now retrieved.

The pillars of heaven are also not stone pillars, but the knowledge passed along by these great theologians and their theologies of the time. If you become familiar with their teachings and the meanings of the teachings, you will not experience death because you will recognize the mysteries of life. So what mystery do you discover?

I believe that Jesus told us, straight up.

This is a simple and common philosophical question. What line has no beginning and no end? A circle. There is no discernible beginning to a circle and no discernible end unless one establishes an arbitrary beginning, which also becomes its own end.

Is it possible, let alone conceivable, that the circle of life: birth, living, death is reflective of the circle that is existence itself. Can the circle of spring-summer-fall-winter-spring- summer-fall-winter be a reflection of existence. Is time a circle not a line? That would explain prophecy, invention, science fiction, people. Another philosophical question, what came first, the chicken or the egg.

In the beginning was the word and the word was with GOD.

If Jesus was the word, did the circle begin with Jesus, or the beginning with GOD. Was it ‘poof’ all at once, everything?

Ecclesiastes also says, “everything that is, was, and ever will be, has already been.” To expand on that idea, imagine a globe made up of an infinite number of circles of varying widths that whirl about each other always maintaining the globe as the perfect circle. Which microscopic dot on one of the circle lines are we, now, at this time? We are all at once someone’s future and someone’s past.

Time travel is perhaps just locating a spot on a globe of circles that roll within itself, a huge globe beyond our conception. The other side of  time may, in fact, be an arms length through the globe. Then, what is beyond the globe?

Whooooo,, so deep for a simple guy.

Do not worry about the future, Jesus says, God will take care of the future, the present day has enough concerns of its own.

What a good time to gather that stone together and allow it to minister to me.

Just some thoughts.

Relationships

HeartOn this Valentines a note that I carry over from my signatures.

“Who you know is not as important as how you treat the people that you meet.”

This carries over from “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”.

Valentine’s Day is about “love”. It is about how we build and maintain relationships. Whether these relationships are deeply personal, workplace, casual or a simple hello, how we interact with people we have known for years or moments defines us as a human being. From the stand point of Jesus, “Love One Another”” was never followed by exceptions. If there are those who are not inclined to the golden rule, or simply do not grasp that humans are basically chameleons who reflect their environment, one must simply move along, do not force a reaction and do not look back. (“Wipe the dust from your feet”.)
Ours is a role of reflecting our Teacher’s message. When we accept the banner of “Christian” we accept a powerful message that people should recognize by how we interact with them.  If we do not reflect Jesus’ message in our own actions, the message we are teaching send the wrong message of what it is a “Christian” is. It is because of what I have seen in others who proudly raise the “Christian” banner that “Unorthodox Christianity” was born.
What makes “Unorthodox Christianity” unorthodox are its roots in the red print of a concordance Bible. No caveats, no exceptions, no exclusions, no racism, no sexism, nothing other than “Love One Another”.  It is much more difficult to be an “Unorthodox Christian”, than it ever will be to wear the banner “Christian”.

“Though I walk through the valley of the shadows of lost souls, I shall not fear them for thou art with me. Thy word and thy example comfort me. Even now, this very day, you are preparing the future before me. In the presence of my enemies, even in the midst of my own personal struggle. You anoint my head with oil and once again my cup overflows with your bountiful blessings. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever…” (the 23rd Psalm applied to me.)

“Who you know is not as important as how you treat the people that you meet.”

Heaven and The Other Place

Heaven and The Other Place – 6-7-17

I have read and heard so many sermons over all the years. Many different church affiliations, as well as independent writers. Lately I have heard another set for discussion that has always sparked my interest. To simply paraphrase, “if you do not believe that Jesus is the son of God you are doomed to Hell for all eternity.”

That seems pretty straight forward. As someone who comments on occasion with my unique perspective, I extend some thoughts. My comments are usually blogishy short, bare with.

As I have read it, Jesus, long before He became the Christ of world renown found himself hanging from a tree with nails securing his hands and feet after a whirlwind trial which ended by committing him to death by crucifixion. On either side of him were two thieves. According to the Book of Luke, Chapter 23 verses 39-43 (The Jerusalem Bible) this discourse:

One of the criminals hanging there abused him.

Are you not the Christ?” he said. “Save yourself and us as well.”

But the other (thief) spoke up and rebuked him. “Have you no fear of God at all?” he said. “You got the same sentence as he did, but in our case we deserved it: we are paying for what we did. But this man has done nothing wrong. “Jesus,” he said, “remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

Indeed, I promise you,” Jesus replied, “today you will be with me in paradise.”

The Third Day, the Resurrection, the Books that became the NEW Testament had yet to occur. The people who had convicted him and the priests who had mocked him questioned his authenticity from below the cross, “Come Down from the cross and prove to us who you are”

But that one rebel, without the benefit of the history of those next few days, and the writings of 30+ years later, or all of the interpretations of over 2000 years, recognized that he personally was getting what he deserved, but this other, this man who had done nothing wrong, but the legend of him helping people was known in the area, had been whipped and staggered through to this conclusion equally. He felt that Jesus did not deserve this, and asked Jesus to but pray for him once he had died and his spirit returned to his Kingdom, whatever that Kingdom he believed it to be. He sought no favors, and probably expected none. And Jesus not only accepted him, but had him accompany himself into paradise. What a shock to his system must that have been.

One, at the very least, recognized Jesus as innocent, the other merely felt that Jesus existed to save him from the punishment that even his companion felt they had coming.

One was taken to the Kingdom, and one probably ended in “Hell”. But where was “Hell”?

My Father led a challenged life. The challenges compounded by my Father’s own approach to it. The week before he died he offered this advice. “This (Earthly life) is Hell”.

My point is this, two thieves, by their choices, lived a life that may have reflected what we might consider to be hellish. One felt it should be free of charge and another recognized that what he had done was his own doing, not to be paid for by someone else. I hear the news, I read the papers, I side a lot with my father. On those days that I agree I look over the results of my actions over the years and have to be honest with myself that much of it is of my own doing.

And then I reflect on this passage “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”

I believe in the Kingdom. I try to be a good friend, and I enjoy my conversations with Jesus and His Father. I remember Lyle, a close friend who thought the diet he was on was the best diet he had ever had. And then he discovered it was a liver cancer that produced the results and at 53 he was gone to the Kingdom within a few weeks. But during those last few weeks he made a comment that has been with me ever since, “You know, Dennis, the roses are redder this morning, the grass is greener. Don’t miss the gifts along the journey.”

The ensuing 30 years has brought me closer to Jesus’ ideas, and friendship by Lyle’s example. I have never questioned His capability to comfort. The hell that many choose to bring upon themselves is balanced by a creation to be marveled at if we do our part to take it in and even to make it better.

Many do not require a Hell for punishment. They choose to live it today. I do not require the condemnation of a third party for any reason that I may pass on to a place called Hell or purgatory or underworld. When I leave, MY OPINION, is this, and this is the worst thing that I believe anyone may hear.

God invites me to coffee after I have died. He asks “Dennis, I haven’t done Earth for awhile. Tell me, what do the roses smell like on a spring morning, or the cool air of evening feel like after a hot summers day in the mountains? Did you enjoy the friendship of the people I sent your way? Did you learn to love?…”

If I can not answer the questions this way:
“The roses are sweet, the cool air in the summer is refreshing, the mentors you sent became great friends, and I learned to love, by loving and being loved also.”
If I can not answer that way, the time was wasted.

And I see God shaking his head a bit and says “That is unfortunate. It was your only opportunity to enjoy it.”

If I can answer the questions positively, the time was special and I might even choose to visit it once again...

Even in the midst of the most difficult of days, or tragic events that cross my path along my journey, I know to take in the gifts that have been given to me and cherish that opportunity.
Will it be Heaven on Earth, or the other place?
My Father who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done
On Earth,
As it is in Heaven.

Make every day special…..

On Gay Lifestyles: Love is like a Diamond

It is Time : A Treatise on ‘Homosexuality’
Gay Lifestyles: Love Is Like A Diamond
from 2-05-2006

I was listening to the sermon the other Sunday at our local church. It wasn’t scathing, but it dealt with the issue of gay lifestyles. Of course, the various Bible passages that deal with ‘homosexuality’ were brought up. Paul’ s take, the passages on marriage, between a man and a woman, and others. Couched within the language of ‘care’ the passages non the less were all interpreted so as to equate ‘homosexuality’ as abnormal, inhuman, or somehow outside of GOD’S design.

Upfront, I disagree. And that is to be expected from my Unorthodox Christian viewpoint.

Somehow, in my viewing language and within my history, I deal in colloquialism. Is what the old languages called ‘eunuch’, a term interchangeable with what we today call homosexual? Is the term we refer to as ‘gay’ apply to many of those that the Bible writers were referring to in various passages, those who showed a preference for their own gender rather than the opposite?

I have asked many questions to myself regarding the gay lifestyle over my life, especially within the context of my own theories of spirit movement. As I have discussed previously, there can be no mistaking Jesus’ belief in spirit inhabitation. The stories of spirits cast out, returning, inhabiting bodies, etc. are many. The Legion story leads way to the woman who sweeps one spirit out only to have seven return. One might assume that only bad spirits travel about, but there must be ‘good’ spirits also that wander and seek homes in people. The ‘holy spirit’, as one is called, comes and visits by “GOD’S’ direction. If a ‘holy spirit’ can come and go, then there are no doubt others that come and go amongst people, some perhaps not so holy, and some just sojourners on a journey through the physical world on their way to wherever they go. For all we know, the journey of spirits from one human life to another to another could be the entire structure of life, its design, and function. It was a belief held prior to Jesus time, during Jesus time, and exists to this day in various world religions. Christianity, as a religion, is relatively new comparative to ‘time’. How long have spirits been journeying? In what forms have these spirits journeyed, as male, or female, or both? Once or twice as each, or a thousand, or a thousand thousand? Do they always return as the same gender, culture, race or time? I discuss this throughout my spirit writings.
I recall relationships that seem as though the spirit, or perhaps one of a few spirits that dwell in me, recognizes the spirit that indwells another, someone whom I recognize as familiar, yet whom I know I have not yet met physically. Yes, I said spirits, plural. Is Legion unique, or merely an extreme?

What causes a good person, child or adult, to commit a vicious crime that seemingly is totally opposed to his or her nature? What causes a sane person to “go off the deep end?” Is it a temporary possession, or merely the manifestation of a dormant spirit. Can the spirit of a memory inhabit a new friend, and then just as suddenly retreat or leave that same person? Is the exorcism of a spirit imagined or real?
In light of this, what is to say that after many lives within female bodies, the sudden manifestation of a female ‘gendered’ spirit into a male body causes extreme confusion in that male ‘host’. Is this some sort of evil manifestation, or merely the natural result of the dual nature that is caused by spirits inhabiting human bodies. Is this ‘gay’ lifestyle, merely reversion into a previous existence where two spirits recognized the relationship they lived before subconsciously and are attempting to duplicate it, whether in the same gendered bodies or not. Is it the manifestation of a previously female gendered spirit within a male body trying to duplicate its previous existence as a female human or a previously male gendered spirit within a female body trying to manifest a duplication of a previous male existence?

Would we call this, ‘the way I was born?” Or would it be, “I am more familiar with the way that this is.”

In Matthew chapter 19, beginning at verse 1 Jesus discourses on marriage. “Have you not read that the creator from the beginning made them male and female?” and then He said, “This is why a man must leave father and mother and cling to his wife.”

Is the male and female of which Jesus speaks merely referring to the physical body, or also a spirit gender that travels through lifetimes? Male often refers to the spiritual existence and female the earth (or physical) existence in ancient writing (i.e. Nag Hammadi).

In verse 12 Jesus discusses the issue of eunuchs. Again, is Jesus addressing an issue of whom we refer to ‘gay’ (both women and men). In our modern interpretation of language are we translating what is a reference to ancient homosexual tendencies as referred to in those times as ‘eunuch’?

Was there, in that age, female gendered ‘eunuchs’ or only ’emasculated’ males?

It is not a topic that received much attention in the colloquial writings of the day. Irregardless, Jesus states, “ there are eunuchs born that way from their mother’s wombs, there are eunuchs made so by men and there are eunuchs who have made themselves that way for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let anyone accept this who can.”

Is it unlikely that many are born ‘emasculated’ from their mother’s womb, or who choose to be ‘emasculated’ for the sake of the kingdom of heaven? A Catholic priest, choosing a celibate lifestyle, would by this definition of Jesus be considered what the translator refers to as a Eunuch, one who chooses to live outside of the traditional male/female relationship, in this case to further the kingdom of heaven.

For the sake of questioning let us say that two spirits, who perhaps were physically married to each other for many years in a previous existence as a male and female spousal unit, reestablish their relationship in a time where they inhabit bodies of the same gender. Is the ‘love’ less for the sake of being the same physical gender? Do we seek out a special person in our journey of this physical life, or are we truly trying to reconnect with a spirit in a host now in this physical journey irregardless of the physical gender in this life journey?

If the spirit of a previous female gendered host’s life or (previous) lives, all of a sudden inhabits a male body in this new life (or a male spirit in a female body), how would it react if the opposite gendered historical spirit was dominant over the instinctive host (as it may be after many journeys)?

Is this “made that way from their mother’s womb”?

Do we know enough of the kingdom of GOD to pass any judgements whatsoever on the structure of human existence? I believe not.

Is it possible, or even necessary, to ‘fix’ spirit genetics?

I go back to diamonds. A diamond in the rough is a rock. The diamond requires a master to cut facets into the rock to create a diamond that reflects light and creates the beauty we recognize as a diamond of great value. The human race is to the kingdom of heaven what facets are to the beauty of a diamond. It requires all of the various facets of the diamond to make the diamond brilliant, so it is with the great variety of human nature, cultures, teaching and languages. Each is a contributory facet.

I am not so naive as to ignore the fact that many spirits can be self centered and instinctive. History is filled with the evil, power driven spirit that wishes to succeed at all costs. The death, destruction and viciousness of people to one another is not news to anyone. Success AT AN-others expense, is not an external force. Jesus admonishes, “It is not what goes into a man from without that defiles a man, it is what comes out from within.”

What I am saying, is that we simply do not know enough about the structure of life, the movement of spirits, or the design of existence, to pass judgment on those who love in whatever manner that they do.

I have been privileged to have been an outside salesman for many years. In the course of these positions I have called on many hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, care facilities, etc. and have found that the sensitive and caring male nurse that would exhibit what we may consider gay traits, give unceasingly and tenderly to those who require their care, in many instances where no one else will.

When asked about discipleship, Jesus also replied, “Love one another, by this they will know that you are a disciple of mine.” No caveats. It does not read that the key lies in fish symbols, or cross necklaces, or Judaistic caps or Catholic robes, by espousing Love alone and by living the new commandment to Love One Another, you display your reverence for love and become a disciple of Christ’s teaching. Is it necessary to brand yourself with a cross to follow a discipline of love? I do not believe so.

Jesus did not come to destroy the law of GOD (LOVE), but merely to fulfill the law that had been adulterated by men.

Love One Another. No caveats. By this they will know that you are a disciple of His. Even without knowing His name, such disciples preceded Jesus, their names simply have not been recorded, and those who have their names recorded permeate our scripture and the scripture of other cultures.

As Jesus said, “Let anyone accept this who can.”

Amen. (Moderately edited from 2005)

PS: The discussions of spirit travels are contained in many of the other writings on this site, and I will be adding to them as the ‘spirit’ so moves. God Bless.

On GrowingUp

From    2-14-2005

I was asking my sister when I would be grown up (I want to go to Peter Pan this week). She said it is when you accept responsibility.

So I asked GOD while I was on my walk and He left me with this thought:

You are grown up when you can place the past in its proper perspective; embrace the day for the future that it represents, and leave the mechanics of that future up to GOD.

Food For Thought

I was at the grocery store yesterday and was pushing a cart back to the store that someone had left in the parking lot where their car was. In my world of unorthodox christianity a thought came to mind. Would Jesus have pushed the cart back to the store? Would Jesus have left the cart in the middle of the parking lot in the first place under the assumption that it was someone else’s task to put it where it belonged?
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Is it loving one another to expect others to complete the task that we find inconvenient?

To this day I see on my wife’s car the sizeable dent made by the shopping cart that blew into my wife’s car in the parking lot of Sam’s Club on one average windy day in El Paso.
Do I file that under Love One Another, or Take Advantage Of One Another?

Religious History

The current movement afloat is educational requirements to expand our historical knowledge of the middle east. In the midst the calling is to require the study of A middle eastern religion in a country based on a constitutional requirement to leave religion in it’s place and the government of life in another. How does one teach history by only teaching one religion versus the relationship that all religions have in common (often not peaceful among each other). That is like teaching one viewpoint on events, or not hearing “The rest of the story”. If we maintain only one perspective we only learn one perspective. We either teach all religions or none. Our constitutional creators recognized that our foundation is based on the freedom to exercise your religion, in the context of the law of the land and not to establish one over another. My friend, and many others I have known, were brought up to study and compare a number of religions. The confusion caused by a sincere study of religious doctrine as presented by a number of sources purportedly given to you as  a message from a shared source (GOD, SUPREME BEING, MESSENGER or whatever) has resulted in most of these people refusing to be intimidated or swayed to join any of them as a result of the inconsistency of their doctrines within their own umbrella of faith let alone others. From my viewpoint of Unorthodox Christianity, Love One Another is a plenty sufficient message without any more doctrine attached. Doctrine is only a center for power, not a path to peace.

Politics of Religion

It seems wishful thinking to believe that Religion and Politics are somehow different. To me that is like saying my mother and I are not related. It is because of my mother that I am related to her at all. When I think of this question of Religion and Politics I think of an old adage, “What came first, the chicken or the egg?”  Historically the question of Religion vs (or Because of) Politics is mute. They are of the same essence. I discuss this further on a new page I have created on my WordPress site The Politics Of Religion.
Let me know what you think.
